How Long Does Air Conditioning Installation Take UK?

The short answer

Most single-room air conditioning installations are finished in a day, and often in half a day. A multi-room system usually takes one to two days, depending on how many indoor units there are and how far the pipework has to run. Larger or more involved jobs can take a little longer, and we always give you a realistic timescale with your quote so there are no surprises on the day.

The install itself is quick because the hard part, the planning, is already done by then. We survey the property first, agree exactly where everything goes, and put a fixed price in writing. By the time our engineers arrive, they know the layout, the unit and the pipe route, so they can get straight on with the work.

Before the install: the survey

Every job starts with a survey, either a video survey or an on-site visit depending on the job and the distance. This is where we measure up, talk through where you want the indoor units, work out the tidiest route for the pipework, and choose the right position for the outdoor unit. It is also where we confirm the size of unit each room needs.

Getting this right is what keeps the installation day short and tidy, and it means the fixed price reflects the actual job rather than a guess.

A single-room installation, step by step

For a typical single-room install, the day runs roughly like this:

Protecting the space: we cover floors and furniture and set up to keep dust down.

Fitting the indoor unit: the wall-mounted unit goes up and we drill a neat core hole through the wall for the pipework.

Running the pipework: refrigerant pipes, drain and cable run between the indoor and outdoor units, concealed where possible and in tidy trunking where it runs on an outside wall.

Fitting the outdoor unit: on a wall bracket or ground stand, sited where we agreed on the survey.

Vacuum and pressure test: we remove air and moisture from the system and check it holds pressure, which is the part that makes it reliable and long-lived.

Charging and commissioning: we bring the system up to temperature and test it in both cooling and heating.

Handover: we show you how the controls and the remote work, then tidy up and take the packaging away.

Start to finish, that is usually four to six hours of work, so most single rooms are done well within a day.

Multi-room installations

A multi-room system takes longer simply because there is more to fit. Several indoor units, longer pipe runs and sometimes more than one outdoor unit all add time. One to two days is typical, and we tell you at the quote stage exactly how long we expect your job to take and whether it is a one-day or two-day visit.

What affects the timeline

A few things move a job slightly longer or shorter:

Pipe run length and route: a long run, or one that has to go around the outside of the house, takes longer than a short, direct route.

Access: upstairs rooms, high outdoor positions, or anything needing ladders or a small tower add time.

Wall type: solid stone walls, common in older West Yorkshire homes, take longer to core than brick or block.

Number of units: each extra indoor unit adds fitting and pipework time.

Electrical connection: connecting to your supply is quick, but we will need the power off briefly.

How to prepare

There is very little you need to do. Clear access to the walls where the units are going, make sure there is space to park the van reasonably close, and have someone at home to let us in and take the handover at the end. If you have pets, it helps to keep them settled in another room while we drill. Everything else, including the exact positions, is already agreed from the survey.

After it is installed

Once the system is running we walk you through the controls, leave you with the paperwork, and your installation is covered by our 5-year warranty. From there, an annual service keeps it running efficiently and protects the warranty.

Can you install air conditioning in one visit?

For a single room, almost always. Multi-room systems sometimes take a second day, which we confirm when we quote.

Do I need to be home the whole time?

Someone needs to be in to give us access and take the handover at the end, but you do not need to watch over the work.

Will you need scaffolding?

Usually not. Most outdoor units are fitted from a ladder or a small tower. If a job does need access equipment, we include it in the fixed price.

How soon can you install after I accept the quote?

Once you are happy with the fixed price, we agree an installation date that suits you, and we will give you the earliest realistic date at the time.
